Bada Ganapati Mandir is a Hindu temple located at the western end of MG Road, Indore Madhya Pradesh, at a distance of 3 km from Indore Junction. It is one of the many Ganesha temples in Indore, and one of the holiest Indore places.
The Bada Ganapati Temple is dedicated to the elephant-headed Lord Ganesha. The temple got its name because of the huge size of the Ganapati idol. There are many legends behind the construction of the temple, according to one legend, in 1875 Mr. Dadhich, a resident of the nearby city of Ujjain, had a vision of Lord Ganesha in his dream. Then he decided to build a huge idol of Lord Ganesha to seek the blessings of the Lord. According to another legend, the temple was built in 1775 by the Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar.

The 25 feet high idol of Lord Ganesha in Bada Ganesh Mandir is one of the largest Ganesha idols in the world. The most interesting fact about the idol is that it is made of a peculiar mixture of limestone collected from seven pilgrimages (Ayodhya, Mathura, Mayapuri, Kashi, Avantika, and Dwarka), jaggery, brick, clay, powder of five gems, or the Pancha Ratna (diamond, pearl, emerald, ruby and topaz) and the water of holy rivers in India. It is also said that the planks used to make the idol are made of gold, silver, iron and copper.
Devotees from all over the world come to Indore to visit this idol of high religious importance. This is especially ideal during Ganesh Chaturthi when frequent festivities are held through worship and offerings of sweets to Lord Ganesha in the hope of seeking his blessings for peace, prosperity and well-being.
